Myths and stories can reveal humanity’s on-going search for meaning and belonging. Follow Kirsten down the narrative rabbit hole as she guides students in building a ¾ life size head using a coil method and sharing all of her hand building techniques. She will break down anatomy and proportion in an easy step-by-step approach with handouts that can be taken home for later reference. Kirsten emphasizes individual attention to help each student achieve their artistic vision. We will then narratively embellish the head to express personal themes of kinship with the human and natural world. Kirsten will also problem solve with students to seamlessly incorporate mixed media after firing.
Beginners welcome. This is an all-levels class.
Cost: $925-Includes all materials and firing.
Narrative Sculptor
Kirsten Stingle’s narrative sculptures confront a globally connected world that heightensindividual isolation and a superficial understanding of our place in the world. Her work focuses on the common threads of human experience, emphasizing our interconnectedness to the worldaround us. The primary protagonist in each sculpture is the hand-built porcelain figure, with special emphasis on the communication tools of gesture and expression. Through careful collaboration with antique relics and other media she transforms an intricate mixture of disparate techniques into a seamless narrative vision.
